This project began with understanding the environment that nurses work in. Their tools are often stored on metal trolleys that are transported to the patient. The dispenser needed to fit amongst this infrastructure.
I take a research through prototyping approach to all projects. The above sketches informed the directions that I would take with my prototypes.
Above are the models and prints for the ideas that I developed. Each idea was tested for its ergonomic performance, suitability to be 3D printed and most importantly supporting the use cases that the nurses required.
This is the final design. It allows nurses to remove a roll of tape or just tear off a portion. The dispenser mounts to hospital trolleys with magnets so that it will not get lost and can be used with one hand.
